Hatch West, a wonder-ful mother and grand-mother will be held Friday, April 6 1979 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Timpanogos Stake House, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Mrs. West's daugh-ters, Mrs. Joan Stras-bur- Mrs. Mereda Danklef and Mrs. Velda Swenson and grand-daughters, Mrs. Robin Anderson and Mrs. Linda Strasburg, are giving the party. Sarah E. HsP lFHr qmBBFBii IPC SmmMm m Lindon Holds Registration For Jr. High for Junior High was con-ducted at Lindon Elementary for all the sixth grade students. Interest and atten-tion ran high as the Junior High counselors Welda Lendt and Leo Grant explained the class possibilities to the students and their parents. Preassessmen-t- s by classroom teachers and Joe Shelton of the Junior High helped to find the correct class and challenge for the students. This was a major step in the lives of the students. Every possible thing was done to give them the in-dividual help they needed. REGISTRATION Tonya Fryer, Mary Lou Fryer and Welda Lendt talk about Jr. High Julie Kaye Gurr and Steve Souter Julie Gurr, Steve Souter Plan Temple Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Gurr of Mesa, Arizona, formerly Pleasant Grove residents, are announcing the engagement and ap-proaching marriage of their daughter Julie Kaye to Steve Souter son of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Souter of Midland, Texas. The couple are making plans for an April 19 wedding in the Salt Lake Temple. An open house will be held the same evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dean Gurr 360 East 10 South Pleasant Grove, Utah. All friends and relatives are in-vited to attend. The bride is a graduate of Vero Beach High School in Florida and LDS Seminary. She will graduate from the BYU this April with an Associate degree in University Studies. The groom is a graduate of the Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, Texas and LDS Seminary. He ser-ved an LDS mission to the Pennsylvania Harrisburg mission. He is presently attending BYU enrolled in Pre-me- Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hansen (Monica Johnson) Open House on Friday Will Honor Newlyweds An open house will be held on Friday, April 6 at the Sportsman-Lion- s Center in Pleasant Grove honoring Monica Johnson and Lynn Hansen, who were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 23. Monica is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Johnson of Coleville, Utah and Lynn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Han-sen of Pleasant Grove. This event is held in the honor of Helen Hall, Utah State Madam President elect. Chairman for his eventKay King, Utah State Junior Past Wor-thy President, reports he has titled the event a "This - N - That" party. The event will start at 1 o'clock p.m. Food and games have been plan-ned. Robert Hall will prepare the menu. Eagles to Hold Family Breakfast Sunday Apr. 8 The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Pleasant Grove No. 3372 will hold a family breakfast Sunday, April 8, from 9 a.m. till 12 noon. This event is spon-sored by the Ladies Auxiliary and the proceeds are used to furnish the lodges new kitchen. Eagles their family and friends are welcome. American Legion Essay Contest Winners Given The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70 Americanism and Legislative program was held at the home of Donna Walker. The Americanism essay contest winners were present and gave a brief report on their Americanism essays entitled "America, Preserve her Past, Develop her Future." First place, Suzanne Goff, second, Linda Ferguson, Third, Mike Moore, Fourth, Melissa Anderson, Fifth, Dean Eric Christensen, These students were from the American Heritage School in Pleasant Grove and were accom-panied by their teacher Mrs. Yuascom. Awar-ds were presented to them. Lorna Walker gave The legislative program and reported on the many interesting programs that the American Legion and Auxiliary are doing for the veterans. These organizations are through their efforts in congress helping the veterans to keep their benefits. Thelma Barnes, Unit 70 President, conduc-ted the meeting. The pledge and preamble were recited by the group. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by June Monson. The prayer was given by Venice Fugal. Refreshments were served by the commit-tee Florence Holt, Don-na Walker, Lorna Walker. Cadmus Club Meeting Held Last Wednesday told many interesting things concerning the life of this outstanding woman. Delicious refresh-ments were served by the Hostess and Maymetta Johnson, Marjorie Holdaway, and Drucilla Smith. Cadmus Club was held March 28th at the home of Drucilla Smith. President Beatrice Hayes welcomed the 20 It members who were present and introduced the program for the evening. Carol Jaynes gave a very interesting and in-formative presentation ' on the life of Martha H. Cannon one of Utahs outstanding pioneer women. Martha H. Cannon was born in 1857 in Wales and came with her family by covered wagon to Utah as a convert to the LDS Church. While very young Martha shewed a great interest in the field of Medicine. She graduated in medicine at the age of 21 in 1880 ' and was one of Utahs ! outstanding Doctors. ! Martha was instrumen-- I tal in many program ! to further better health ! in Utah. She was on the ! first state board of ; Health and helped in its ! ogranization. she also ; established a school for ; nurses. Martha was the 1st ' american woman to be elected as a State Senator in 1896. Carol Variety Club Is Entertained Members of the Variety Club were en-tertained at the home of Eva Reynolds Thur-sday evening March 24th. Her home was beautifully decorated with lovely spring flowers and plants. An Easter theme was carried out on the long table where delicious refreshments were ser-ved. Eva told about her rece.nt Carribean Cruise and trip to Florida. She also showed souvenirs and pictures of the trip. Each member received a beautiful favor she had purchased on the cruise. Those present were Earline Walker, Thelma Swenson, Ida Holiday, Louise Johnson, Dorothy Walker, Mary Harper, Juanita Lar-sen- , Mary Swenson, Beth Warburton and Merle Armitstead. Eva received a lovely gift from her secret pal. LIGHT THE G Student leaders, Amy Thomas, Janell Jarvis, Mike Frost, Sonny Goodman, Kevin Peay, Sherrie Hullinger, David Swen-son. Julie Allen, are student leaders working on lighting the "G" Studentbody Officers Start Project to "Light the G" The PGHS Key Club and studenbody have started a money raising project to light the 'G' forever. Class com-petition has been star-ted between the seniors j uniors and sophomores. At the present time the seniors are in the lead with an easy margin, the sophomores and juniors are fighting for a close second. All the city clubs and organizationa will be contacted so everyone in the community will have a chance to donate to the G project. Raffle tickets will be sold for a G quilt that the senior citizens have donated. The lighting system for the G will be elec-trical and portable, so there will be no problems with van-dalism. Utah County Hairdressers Will Meet Monday, Apr. 9 The April meeting for Hairdressers of North Utah County Affiliate 1 Chairmaned by Mary Jane Laycock will be Monday, April 9, 1979 at 7:30 p.m. at New Ladie and Her Gen-tlemen, 247 West Cen-ter, Provo, Utah. Demonstrations in makeup by Redkin Technician, Debra Hendrick and Retro Hair cuts by Styles Director Jan Brady Preston. A fashion show will be presented by the Dress Works. Members free, $2.00 refreshments will be served.
