Show Battle Creek Camp Met Monday, November 1 3 Richards, Rosa Thome, Alta Hone, May Wood, Ruby West, Beth Wright and Thelma Yorgason. On Monday, Nov. 13, the Battlecreek Camp of Daughters of Utah Pioneers met at the home of Iona Weyland. Captan Maymetta Johnson was in charge and welcomed everyone. Praver was given by Chaplain Alta Hone. Secretary Cora Bez-zant Bez-zant gave the minutes and called the roll. Lesson leader Viola Cowley gave a very interesting in-teresting lesson on Old Samplers. These samplers sam-plers came into use during the 16th Century. Cen-tury. The earliest mention men-tion of them was in 1502. The earliest sampler sam-pler known to exist was from Germany and is dated 1615. Mrs. Cowley told stories of different women and girls and their lives and samplers. sam-plers. The custom of making samplers was brought to America from England. By the time a girl was 8 years old she was supposed to be skilled enough in making samplers to have them displayed. Usually there was a verse with a religious theme in it. Historian Eva Proctor Proc-tor showed pictures of different homes and explained about making scrapbooks of Pleasant Grove events of interest to the DUP.
