Show THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1978 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1978 Mary Says . . . Maybe When They Resurface Street, Cars Won't Roll eliminate the problem of the runaway cars. I'm not sure if the hump will be put in on the east side of the street or not, but one person said they thought it would cause people to get stuck in the winter. After all is said and done ain't it great to live in P.G.? I've been stuck on Main Street on slick streets before and its hard to find a parking place at certain times of the dav but here I'll stay, how bout you? by Mary West After watching the flurry of activity in the downtown area for the past week or so, I feel inspired, or perhaps compelled to make comment on the beautification of our fair city. I've been on the Planning Commission for some four years and during that time their has been numerous down town buisnessmen meeting, public hearing etc. We have had BYU studen-ts draw up plans and varous sketches of what we should or could look like. We've had ar-chitectural layouts on display and even drawings from our local students. All during this time wails and crys of con-cern were made for the businesses on the west side of the street whose windows were being crashed thru by cars doing business on the east side of the street. There were suggestions of a barrier down the middle of the street, closing the street off altogehter to automobile traffic, and building a barrier on the west side of the street. One of my lear-ned colleagues stated that a Berm should be placed on the east side of the street. First question I have was. How do you spell it, and second, What is it?" Well a Berm is in laymans terms, a bump or hump on the east side of the street. What do you do with a berm? Well, you drive your front tire over it, and if you don't put your emergency brake on, or put your car in park then its supposed to keep you from crashing through the windows on the west side of the street while your doing business on the east side of the street. I notice that there now seems to be a bet-ter solution on the west side of the street. Several cars have fallen down into the hole be-tween the street and the curb and gutter. It seems to me that if you leave a hole on the west side of the street we won't have to go to the expense of a berm on the east side. Actually the new sidewalk does look very nice and smooth, but nothing was done to Move in for Thanksgiving Open dally Tor your Impaction. Your family will enjoy this Vt Bath Rambler.
