Show Five Radio Buffs Participate in Commo Exercise Bryce Anderson, VHF Coordinator Coor-dinator for Utah County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, reported that durine the weekend of June 24-25, 24-25, he and five other local amateurs, participated in a nationwide emergency emergen-cy communications exercise. Ti c f;ve were Larry Hall, Lindon, John Lloyd, Dtirryl Hazelgren, and David Williams, all of Sandy, and Bryce, who is a native of Pleasant Gro e, but now lives in Orem. Bryce said that the "Field Day" communications event is sponsored annually by the American Radio Relay League to test the emergency operational capabilities of self-powered, self-powered, portable shortwave stations. During the 27 hour drill period, the five men set up their self-contained self-contained and self-powered "field day" station in the mountains north of Lehi. They then contacted over 1500 other such stations in 49 states and around the world. Bryce said that they see this operation as a demonstration of their capability to provide emergency communications for Utah to anywhere in the country if the need should ever arise. . . yTie field day was also a time con-rfo'sibn con-rfo'sibn to "Apiateur Radio Week" as 1 proclaimed by the governor of Utah. |
