Swimmers Overpowered By Orem in Final Dual ftfleet Parents and swimmers connected with the Team this year express their appreciation ap-preciation to Bill Hogland, Pleasant Grove City Recreation director for having the foresight to save the summer swim program when the Utah Valley Board resigned at the close of the season last year. Mr. Hogland felt it was much too fine a program to drop and was instrumental in contacting contac-ting other Cities, who worked together to continue the excellent ex-cellent program for swimmers who can only compete during summer months. In the final dual Meet of the season, Pleasant Grove swimmers were overpowered by Orem with a final score of 304 to 284. According to officials, of-ficials, many team members had excellent times and won their share of races but summer sum-mer vacations, family outings for the 24th holiday and scout trips took their toll, making weak spots in key relay re-lay teams and other events. Coach Stan Crump and his assistants are planning an in-tersquad in-tersquad meet for Thursday morning at 7:00 in preparation for the Utah Vally Championships scheduled for Aug. 4th and 5th, at the outdoor pool in American Fork. The Championship Cham-pionship Meet will begin each day at 5:00 p.m. All teams who have been part of the Utah valley Leagues this year will participate and team trophies will be awarded on a total point basis. High point tropheys will be given in each age group, both boys and girls, for combined totals of individual performances. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each race. A fee of 35 1 will be charged for each event entered en-tered by a swimmer to cover expences. The Championships will be divided into two day competition com-petition with 9-10, 11-12 yr olds participating on the 4th (Wed), and with 8 and under, 13-14, and 15-17 year olds competiting on Thursday, the 5th. |
