The victory raised the Bears' record to 5-6 while the A Team dropped drop-ped to3-8. In other league action, Reilly's All Stars stunned the Barbarians 30-28" and the Tanqueray Tonics singed the Burnt Oranges 30-23. The Bears cruised to a 15-8 lead in 1 the first half of their game on thef jump-shooting of Skip Bell and the rebounding of Bill Hart. The A Team had a tough time finding the hoop , and at one time was down 12-2. But the A Team turned the game around in the second half. They scored the first bucket and the Bears '' answered with two hoops for a 17-9 lead. Then the A Team caught fire and reeled off seven consecutive points. A Team big man John Pappas . asserted himself more in the center position and was a force inside. Keith Cooley began hitting jump' shots and Jerry Jaeter led a couple (' fast breaks during the rally. A turnaround jumper by Hart, putting put-ting the score at 18-16, finally stop-ped stop-ped the A Team's streak. A 17-footer by Cooley tied the score at 18 and then a Pappas tip in tied it again later at 21. However, the Bears began to assert themselves again. Hart and sub Rich Reilly started to rip down , rebounds and Bell connected for a ; couple as the Bears started to pull '' ,,. away at 26-22. : The A Team, however, refused to . fold and knotted the score at 29. The Bears then went to their "bread and butter" man. Hart hit a 15-footer and after the A Team missed miss-ed he canned a 10-foot jumper to end the game. T The 9-2 Tanqueray Tonics ,nO stand alone in first place after 'the hurting the All Stars put on the ar-r 1 barians. The Barbarians are in second se-cond at 8-3 and the All Stars are in third at 7-4. The Bears are holding down fourth place at 5-6, the A Team is fifth at 3-8 and Burnt Oranges are last at 1-10. On Dec. 11, the Barbarians will ! play the A Team at 6 p.m., the Burnt 4 Oranges take on the All Stars at 7 rff.m. and the Tanqueray Tonics meet the Bears at 8 p.m. Dec. 16 action has Burnt Oranges meeting the Bears at 6 p.m., the Tanqueray Tonics will collide with the Barbarians Bar-barians (who should have a chance for a first-place tie with a victory) and the All Stars go against the A Team. All games are played at the Memorial Building and are open to the public. - |
