Show Chamber, county sign transient tax contract The Summit County Commission has agreed to a 1985 contract for sharing transient room tax funds with the Park City Chamber of CommerceConvention and Visitors Bureau. The agreement is the same as in previous years, said Chamber Bureau executive director Debby Symonds. The transient state tax is three percent of lodging charges, applies to overnight stays of less than 30 days. By state ordinance, Symonds said, the money must be used for tourist or marketing activity. The county uses two formulas for transient money, she said. For the first $225,000 collected, 75 percent goes to the ChamberBureau and 25 percent goes to the Mountainlands Association of Governments. For any funds above that amount, 87 '2 percent goes to the Chamber and 12'2 percent to the Mountain-land, Mountain-land, she added. Last year, Symonds said, the county raised a total of $500,000 in transient tax, of which about $430,000 went to the Chamber Bureau. The county takes $10,000 from the ChamberBureau's share and allocates al-locates its uses. Symonds said the money has usually been spent on promoting county events, including the Summit County Fair and Park City's arts festival and film festival. With the county funding secured, Symonds said the Chamber Bureau will have a budget for 1985 ready in December. Increased advertising funds will be split between summer and winter tourism, she said, but other projects will focus on the summer season. |
