Show r EBusiness IBrieff s 1 i Occupancy up over holiday According to preregistration figures from the Park City Chamber of CommerceConvention & Visitors Center, the 1984 Thanksgiving holiday was far better for business than was last year's. Kris Rodman of the Chamber Bureau said that for the week of Nov. 18-24 a total of 8,969 people were in town, compared to 4,875 for the same week last year. Rodman said those figures count the total number of people in town each night, so some people may have been counted twice or three times during their stay. Still, the totals are useful for comparison. Rodman said the week's high came on Saturday of both years. This past Saturday's total was 2,116, compared to 942 on the Saturday following Thanksgiving in 1983. Rodman attributed the increase to a few factors. One is the earlier opening of the Park City Ski Area. Another is the snow storm which belted a Monday night football game in Denver earlier this season, which she said probably got people thinking about skiing a little earlier than usual. Also, she said Park City's reputation is getting around, so more people are making plans to visit here.. |
