Show Library Director Arrives Park City's new library director, Pat Montgomery, assumed her post May 16 and already has plans for the facility located in the historic Miners' Hospital. Montgomery, who comes to the Park City Library from the Salt Lake County Library System, was selected from a field of almost 40 applicants to replace Judy MacMahon who resigned the library directorship in February. She adds she would like to upgrade the facility's reference refer-ence collection and increase the community's use of the building. Montgomery said she 'would like to initiate a summer reading program for school children as well as develop some joint activities with the rec. department. "I've given some thought to a summer film series for kids," she added. Additionally, the new director direc-tor wants to improve the collection of historic materials mater-ials housed on the third floor of the facility and expand indexing, cataloging and microfilming programs. "Basically I have a lot of ideas and plans rattling around in my mind, but I have to find out more about the community and the library before putting them into action," she said. Montgomery holds a Bachelor Bache-lor of Arts degree (BA) from Spaulding College in Louisville, Louis-ville, Kentucky, a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree de-gree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and is working on a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree at the University Univer-sity of Utah. She said she is very happy to be in Park City and is excited about the challenge posed by her new position. "Park City seems like a wonderful place to live and the library here is one of the finest facilities of its size I've seen," she said. "I'm just happy to be here." Library Board Chairperson Juli Bertagnole said the board feels very fortunate to have someone with Montgomery's Mont-gomery's talents and abilities abili-ties associated with the library. |
