Although the city has no concrete plans for the in creased revenue, Park City officials have pledged to use a portion of the increase to reduce local property taxes. A public hearing has been slated before the City Council Coun-cil at 5 p.m. this Thursday, May 19 to gain input regarding a proposed sales tax hike for Park City. Under the Resort - Cities bill that passed the Utah Legislature earlier this year, Park City and other resort communities were given the option of increasing local sales taxes up to one percent. Park City is proposed to exercise the option with a three quarters of one percent increase which would bolster municipal coffers by up to $750,000 next year. The proposed increase would raise sales taxes in Park City to a total of six percent or six cents on the ' dollar. Park City does not want to place any local business in an unfair competitive posture so retail sales exceeding $2,500 . will be excluded from the tax hike as will wholesale lumber and building material sales. The city feels the tax increase will not induce residents to shop in Salt Lake for small purchases, but could provide an incentive to |
