Show Temple Square Christmas activities The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has announced a month-long series of Christmas concerts and other holiday season activities on Salt Lake City's Temple Square. The traditional Christmas lighting display, featuring some 215,000 tiny lights in the trees and shrubs and along the walks and walls of the Square, will begin with a formal ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 1983. The Carolers & Brass section of the Mormon Youth Symphony, under the direction of Robert C. Bowden, will provide the music for the lighting ceremony which will be conducted on the plaza of the North Visitors Center. That same evening, Nov. 25, the made-for-television movie, "Mr. Krueger's Christmas," starring James Stewart and the Tabernacle Choir, will be shown at 7 p.m. in the North Visitors Center, and will then be shown continuously throughout the balance of the Christmas season. There will be a variety of concerts in the Assembly Hall and the North Visitors Center during the Christmas Christ-mas season. Concerts will be held each night from Nov. 25 to Dec. 30, including the regular Friday and Saturday Satur-day Temple Square concert series in the Assembly Hall and performances by a variety organizations in both the Assembly Hall and the Visitors Center. Tickets are required only for the Salt Lake Oratorio Society's performance of "The Messiah," and may be obtained from the Utah Symphony Box Office. Activities in the historic Tabernacle will include : Daily at noon : Tabernacle Organ recitals. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11, 8 p.m.: Handel's Han-del's "The Messiah," Salt Lake Oratorio Society. Friday, Dec. 16, 8 p.m.: Mormon Youth Symphony & Chorus Christmas Concert, Robert C. Bowden, director. direc-tor. Saturday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 20, 8 p.m.: Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concerts. Sunday, Dec. 18, 6:30 p.m.: church-wide "Christmas "Christ-mas Fireside" (this program will be transmitted live via satellite to some 600 gatherings around the United States). Saturday, December 24, 8 p.m.: "The Feeling of Christmas," a special Christmas Eve program. Every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. : Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals. Every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.: Mormon Tabernacle Choir radio and television broadcasts. The Christmas lighting display will continue through Sunday, Jan. 1. |
