Show Supreme Court won't hear Singer appeal Vickie Singer and her attorney, Gerry Spence, received word Monday Mon-day that the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear their appeal. Singer's husband John was shot to . death six years ago during an arrest attempt at his home in Marion, 16 miles east of Park City. Her request for $111 million in damages for his wrongful death was denied in District Court when Judge David K. Winder ruled the police officers had acted in self defense. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver upheld Winder's decision. However. Singer's lawyers claimed the influence of the Mormon Church had prevented Singer, whose husband hus-band had been excommunitcated by the Church, from getting a fair trial. In their brief to the Supreme Court, they said the Singers' constitutional rights, specifically the First and 14th amendments, had bn vinlatpH The Supreme Court received the petition for writ of certiori from the law offices of Spence, Moriarty and Schuster last month. The original dispute between the Singers and state authorities concerned con-cerned Singer's right to keep his children out of public school in Kamas and to teach them at home. |
