Show Women Voters Elect Calder A Park City woman was recently elected to a state office al a League of Women Voters convention held in Ogden.. Carol Calder was elected organizational chair at the league's 14th biennial convention held April 24-25. Also elected were Dennna Clark. Salt Lake City, as president; Nanette Benowit. Salt Lake City, as first vice president; M a r g a r e I R o s I k o w s k i . Ogden. second vice president; Carol Stenner. Logan, secretary; Judy Vogel. Bountiful, treasurer; Babs Delay. Salt Lake City, development chair; Georgia Thompson. Cedar City, editor of voter; and the nominating committee selected included Alice Griffith. Bountiful. Mary Beth Beck. Salt Lake City, and Pat Braun, Ogden. The league passed resolutions supporting national legislation "to provide vital assistance and supportive services to this country's poor." A growing number of women and children in Utah are living below the ipoverty level. The league decided to pledge support welfare proposals will enable to poor to become "'economically self-sufficient." self-sufficient." Delegates urged their Congressional delegation to support reauthorization of the Clean Air Act. including increased attention to acid rain and toxic air born pollutants. Two state-wide studies are planned for the coming year. The league will delve into the Utah laws regarding marital property and is also planning a comprehensive study of education in the state. |
