Memorial Building To Close for Repairs Park City's War Veteran's Memorial Building will close next week for recreation and meetings while repairs are made to the gym floor and other remodeling work is completed. According to City Manager Wayne Matthews, the building will be closed for "at least" one month "until further notice." The work, funded by a $147,000 federal grant throagh Summit County, includes installation of a new gym floor, new roof and electrical wiring and a jacuzzi and steam room in the building's basement. Matthews said the remodeling is scheduled to be completed by the end of May. Substantial work has already taken place on the electrical system and new roof, and the - Park City Police Department has already moved their offices from city hall to the Memorial Building as of last week. The police department offices, as well as the offices of the recreation department and Pale-fire Pale-fire program housed in the building, will remain open throughout the construction. Earlier plans to install a handballracquetball court in the stage area of the gym have been abandoned, Matthews said, because be-cause of a lack of adequate space. Park City assumed control over the building last fall after lengthy and sometimes bitter negotiations with the Summit County Commissioners. Commis-sioners. It was constructed by the county in the 1930s as a memorial to the county war veterans and was operated by them until the city take-over. The city council has indicated they will consider whether to continue operating the building when the current one year agreement expires in September. |
