Show Ecologist Dr.DonaldA. Spencer Spen-cer noted that pesticide-treated agricultural lands now are producing pro-ducing more wildlife than ever, on a national basis. He said, Pesticides are but one of the tools by which we manipulate our environment. Open fields in timbered areas create an optimum op-timum wildlife habitat pattern. The building of farm ponds, some 50,000 a year, provides an improved distribution of water sources for many wild species. The planting and maintenance of windbreaks and shelterbelts to protect soils and crops from wind erosion have provided both nesting sites and winter cover for wildlife." |
