Show marvelous time. Before I knew it my time was up and I was ready to fly home. The day was perfect and I flew out of Grand Rapids this time - to Chicago and then continued on to Salt Lake City. My thought went back to last January when I drove home -what a difference -no effort this time - no snow and blizzard -1 thought to myself -what beauty and majesty this land of ours presents - it is so very apparent ap-parent from high in the sky. Because it was Sunday the plane was full, but I was able to get my "requested" seat - I like to sit by the window just back of the wing so I can see right down - and the flight went according to schedule. In fact, we were a few minutes early getting into Salt Lake City. I was disappointed that it was cloudy as we flew down from around Evanston because on the flight out I had been able to pick out Kimball's Junction and Echo Reservoir and could plainly see Hi way 1-80 and Flaming Gorge! But, clouds or no clouds, I was glad to be nearing Park City and by golly, Odessa met me in the sprinkling rain, told me about the downpours of the past couple of days, and as we came up the canyon THE SUN CAME OUT! "That's Park City!" I said and so, after a wonderful time with dear, dear friends I've known for MANY years, I'm happy to be back with dear, dear friends that are very, important to me now, too. Friends are wonderful assets in anybody's life, but when you don't have any relatives (as is true in my case - well, I DO have one second cousin!) friends are that much more important and I am blessed with hundreds, and for that I am grateful. Bits & Pieces By Eleanor Bennett Vacation's over! I had a beautiful beau-tiful tune and certainly want to thank my stand-by, Odessa Nelson, Nel-son, for taking over the duties of getting the Park Record out to you folks. If if hadn't been in the paper that I was away no one would have known the difference! After my trip to Michigan last winter when I was snow bound three days in Walnut, Iowa, on my way back to Park City, I vowed never again would I leave here in the winter time! Well, when you've lived in an area a real long time and have dozens and dozens of friends of long-standing, and you KNOW you won't be seeing them for the Christmas holidays, it just sort of makes sense to go see them in good weather - so that's what I did! This time I flew and had perfect flights both ways. I tell you, it makes me mighty proud to be an American when I fly up there - 35 to 36,000 feet - looking down on the mountains moun-tains and forests that turn into flat lands with farms neat as a pin. "This Land is My Land," that popular song, came to mind as we flew out of Salt Lake City early the morning of Aug. 18. (I got up at 5 o'clock that morning and drove down to the airport as the sun first peeked over the mountains.) My plane left at 9:10 and I was pleasantly surprised by-friend, by-friend, Phyllis Park who came bustling down the aisle of the plane about ten minutes before be-fore take-off! She laughed and said she just wanted to say good-bye and so she fibbed a bit and told them that I had forgotten for-gotten my book of traveler's checks. It's nice to have someone some-one see you off! Anyway, the day was beautiful, beau-tiful, the breakfast United served was delicious (the fruit was a good sized bowl of fresh blueberries, and as I don't use cream in my coffee, I poured it over the berries, so it really was special!). Friends met me at the airport air-port in Kalamazoo (I had changed chang-ed to North Central in Chicago and puddle -jumped over Lake Michigan) and from that minute on I "visited." I stayed a couple of days with each of several of my friends and had luncheons and dinners with others in between. be-tween. I caught up on all the news of my friends, heard all the local gossip, got acquainted with the newly acquired two month old Airedale puppy just purchased by one of iny dear friends and all in all had a |
