The Park team drew first blood and held the lead at half-time, half-time, but the Provo team handed the locals their sixth straight loss. Davey Jones of the Olde Boys looked for help as the Park City defense closes in. With the Olde Boys pressing once more toward the Park City goal, Number Eight Smith slammed into an opposing ballcarrier ball-carrier with terrific force and the ball popped into the open field near the sidelines. Park Standoff Dave Mueller saw the opening and toed the ball upfield. With nothing between be-tween he and the goal but day - light and green grass, Mueller was hauled down from behind without possession of the ball and a penalty try (touchdown, 4 points) was awarded Park City. Vieing with a tough cross-wind cross-wind and a bad angle, Ron Cotter's Cot-ter's kick for the conversion sailed wide, Park City settling for a 4-0 advantage. The balance of the first half saw the Olde Boys pressing to get back into the game. And they did when Park committed a penalty pen-alty infraction in front of the goal posts about twenty -five yards out. THE OLDE BOYS kicker split the uprights on the penalty kick, making the score at half time Park City 4, Olde Boys 3. Park City played almost the entire second half backed against its own goal line. For a time the Park defense held, stubbornly thwarting the Olde Boys when they neared a score. BUT THE OLDE Boys caught Park City napping when they threw in short on a lineout and the Number One man in the line snagged the pigskin and bulled five yards to paydirt, The conversion kick failed, but on the ensuing kickoff the Provo team again drove down, scoring quickly, pushing the score to 13-4 against the seemingly seem-ingly flattened visitors. |
