Show Park West Is Host to Ski Patrol Members for Tough 2-Day Test Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19, Park West was the site of the National Ski Patrol Senior Test, administered by the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain Division Testing and Training staff. Twenty two ski patrol members mem-bers from Park West, Park City Resort and Snow Basin (ten, Park West; ten, Park City Resort; two, Snow Basin) ski areas began the difficult two-day written and practical examination early Saturday morning at the area. Don Lucas, Intermountain Division Testing and Training Advisor, and his team of judges had prepared the extensive tests involving several pages written, writ-ten, first aid applications for simulated on-hill injuries, all aspects of rescue toboggan performance, per-formance, skiing various types of terrain and snow conditions, with a timed up-hill endurance race completing Sunday evening's even-ing's examination. 'All of our patrol members successfully passed this national nation-al test," commented Park West Safety Director, Dick Frost. John Durham, Assistant Director Direc-tor for the patrol, completed the written portion of the examination ex-amination with a total score of 103 12, the highest total points given an individual in the Intermountain Inter-mountain Division in the past four years. Durham is a weekend week-end patrol member and Manager Man-ager of DuMac, Inc., located in downtown Salt Lake City. Once passed, the senior classification clas-sification advances the individual individ-ual for many possible opportunities op-portunities in ski patrol functions. func-tions. Lucas stated that there have been five senior classifications tests for Intermountain Division patrolmen with one final exam to be conducted later this season at Pomerelle ski area in Idaho. |
