Show Wildlife Week Featuring Wild Ecology Week, March 19-25, sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation Fed-eration and its state affiliates. : This year's theme focuses on the fact that wildlife is a part of the environmental crisis and is dependent upon quality natural nat-ural surroundings. The bald eagle, emblem of the United States, is in trouble, Its plight symbolizes the fate of 100 other American wildlife species threatened by extinction extinc-tion due to man's interference with the natural world. Film star-ecologist Robert Redford of the Sundance Recreation Rec-reation Area in Provo Canyon is chairman for National Wildlife Wild-life Week. He said: "The bald eagle is more than a decoration for dollar bills, postage stamps, and commercial commer-cial advertising. It is a symbol of strength, freedom, and quality qual-ity of life. "It may be a wild idea to believe be-lieve we can reverse environmental environ-mental destruction to protect the bald eagle and create a quality life for man; but this country was founded on the wild idea of independence and not so long ago a wild idea took us to the moon. Ecology is another wild idea that will work." Redford is active in several important environmental issues in Utah including the movement to protect the Provo River and Canyon from unnecessary alteration al-teration by man. |
