Show Safety Is Topic of Farm Bureau Meet The Utah State Agricultural University hosted a very worthwhile worth-while Safety Conference relating relat-ing to farm, ranch and home safety, Thursday, March 1. Summit County was represented repre-sented by Clark P. Brinton and Mrs. Cumorah J. Brinton of the County Farm Bureau. President Glen L. Taggart of the Utah State University welcomed delegates and introduced intro-duced J. Phil Campbell, Under Secretary of Agriculture who spoke on the implications for agriculture of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OS HA). Secretary Campbell also spoke and answered questions at the luncheon session. He was introduced by Joseph Francis, Utah Secretary of Agriculture. John Young of the Utah Farm Bureau Insurance Company conducted a discussion of case histories of accidents on the farm and ranch. He was assisted as-sisted by several agents from throughout the state. R.O. Gilden, Executive Secretary Sec-retary of the National Advisory Committee, Safety in Agriculture, Agricul-ture, spoke on 'What Are Other States Doingto Reduce the Farm Accident Rate?" The Summit County Farm Bureau suggests that members should be aware that requirements require-ments for "Fanny Flags, the slow - moving vehicle emblem will be required by state law from September, 1973 on. - These emblems may be obtained ob-tained at cost by members from county directors. They should be ordered ahead of time needed as present stock is low. Another important safety reminder re-minder is the using and fastening fasten-ing of seat belts on cars and trucks. It appears this is going to be a must on tractors also. Also the placing of first aid kits and fire extinguishers in the home and vehicles where feasible is a good safety practice. prac-tice. -Clark Brinton. |
