Realizing that such renditions need not exist, he conceived con-ceived the idea of pledging the nation to regard and protect as neutral nil sick and wounded combatants and all persons giving them succor. He elaborated his ideas and through the cooperation of the Swigs federal council coun-cil brought about an International conference in Geneva In lSii3. Sixteen Six-teen governments were represented. This was followed by the Geneva convention con-vention of August 3. 1801, which adopted nine articles of agreement "for the amelioration of the conditio of the wounded In an army In the field." |
