Johnson also Investigated tho whereabouts where-abouts of H. S. Wise and Kayak Smith, for whose safety fears w'ore entertained. Wise and Smith escaped Injury, but underwent thrilling experiences expe-riences and endured hardships in making their escape from ice-bound passes and Icecold water that swept down to the Bering sea valley. Johnson said that the force ef the flood, when It burst from the glacier, must have been tremendous. Icebergs Ice-bergs larger than an ocean Watr, were torn from the glacier and swept down stream. Many Icebergs carried from the channel by the eddying eddy-ing current wcr left stranded high and dry when the flood subsided. The giant Icebergs, standing alone miles away from the mother glacier, present an unusual sight. For years to como they will 6tand huge monuments of Ice to the great forces of nature. |
