All signs Indicate In-dicate that New York City's New-Year's New-Year's celebration tonight will surpass sur-pass all previous efforts. It will be costlier noisier and more generally obsencd thau ever before. Several hundred thousand persons will serve on the reception committee, commit-tee, which will welcome 1911 at midnight mid-night and the hotels and restaurant .-men figure that Mr. nnd Mrs. New JYork will incidentally put more than a million dollars Into circulation. ; The major portion of this sum will go for wet goods, mostly champagne, although the fact that New York is arriving on Saturday night means that tho rale of liquid cheer will cease promptly at 12 o'clock. Mayor Gaynor, several days ago refused to countenance any suspension of the I Saturday night rule, but It will be ! possible for celebrators to purchaso sufficient before midnight to last until un-til desired hour. Every chair In every Important public pub-lic dining room in tho city will be Idled for the evening, many of the seats In the more popular restaurants restaur-ants having l.een reserved as far back as last August. ' The police will be out In force to see that the celebration is kept within with-in bounds "Ticklers.' confetti and rowdyism is barred by official edict, but there will bo no attempt to put the soft pedal on noise. |
