Show GAMBLER IS HEAVILY FINED Charged with assaulting Link Lush on the night of December 1, W. H. lllll, a gambler, was urralgned in po-I.ce po-I.ce court this morning and lined $00 or sixty days. Hill pleaded not guiity to the charge against him and produced- two witnesses wit-nesses to tell the story of the trouble which occurred in front of the Turf 6nloon, on Twcnty gfth street Whilo those witnesses swore that Lush was drunk at the time he was assaulted and had drawn a knife with which he struck at Hill, their testimony proved that the assault was largely provoked v the defendant. The witnesses also testified that Hill, after he had felled his victim to the sidewalk with his fisl, kicked him in the face and body. Hill is considerably larger than Lush and this tact. uay have been tr.ken Into account by th- Judge In inflicting the penalty. While Lush admitted that he was very drunk at the time of tho assault and could not tell Just how it occurred, his face was a mute witness to the vlciousness of the attack I loth the complainant's eyes were blackened and his faco and head severely cut and bruised. |
