Show OGDEN INTERESTED IN LABOR TROUBLES Much local interest Is bing aroused by the labor troubles appearing on the horizon iu Salt Lake, growing out of the alleged employment of non-union men on some of the largo buildings now under process of construction. Strenuous efTort3 arc being made in Salt Lake by the union forces to have the courts enjoin the Real Estate association as-sociation from continuing the advertising adver-tising in eastern cltlea for artisans and laborers to come to Salt Lake, under un-der the promise that there Is plenty of work. According to the reports received from the capital, an unusually large nu tuber of men are out of work and unable to find employment and the action of the Real Eslato association In advertising for men Is meeting with opposition. Not only In Salt I-ake Is this feeling of animosity towards the association felt, as labor unions In tbls city are also greatly aroused over the matter. It Is claimed that to advertise ad-vertise for additional working men, with the cjty Jail he-re nightly filled to over-flowing with honest men who come here In search of employment, only to be reduced to absolute want when unable to find work, is the hclghth of foolishness and should be stopped at all hazards. Every night between '.0 and 5 men i.ie given free lodging in the city Jails or Ogden and Salt Lake, and this number does not begin to cover all the men who are out of work in this locality. Builders and labor unions are look- j ing anxIouFly for the opening of Hpring so that work may be recommenced, but the unions claim that even with the large amount of work that la already al-ready contracted for aud Is ready to ! bo started as soon as the weather per- j mits, there will be labor and to spar to handle ever thing without bringing more men into the cities of Utah. Just at present the stuatlon in Salt Lake seems to be much wor3C than In this city, although comparatively speaking, there are Just as many unemployed worklngmen In Ogdeu as in Rait Lake. So far, however, no trouble has appeared ap-peared with the labor unions in this city, while grave doubts as to just what will happen should the builders in Salt Lake who are employing nonunion non-union men persist in their course arc nelng entertained, and somo talk of a general strike has been heard. |
