Little Louie Murdock, . the 13-year-old girl who has apparently develop ed a mania for running off with horses belonging to other people, has broken out afresh once more ami yesterday, yes-terday, accompanied by her twin brother, appropriated a horse and buggy bug-gy belonging to Bishop James Martin, Sr.. of Fair West and skipped tor Salt Lake. The two fugitives were arrested ar-rested this morning at Laytou. en route to the capital city, and will be brought back to Ogden by Sherift Wade of Davis ' county, who made the arrest on telegraphic Instructions from Sheriff Wilson. Louie Murdock is the daughter ot Mrs Emma Haley, who resides ou Lincoln avenue, by a former marriage, and this is the 'third escapade ot a similar nature in which the girl has figured during the last six months, ago When arraigned before Judge Gunnell of the juvenile court, Louie, told a pathetic story of abu3e received receiv-ed from her stepfather and his honor, hon-or, ater investigation, oeclded to give the girl another chance before sending her to the industrial school. With this purpose iu view ho found a comfortable home lor Louie at tho residence of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Urauu on Canyon road, and the little girl s conduct since, until this latest adventure, ad-venture, has been all that could have been desired. She had a good home, was attending school regularly and Judge Gunnell was highly pleased at what he believed was her entire reformation. re-formation. Her brother, Levi, has been living with Bishop and Mrs. Martin at Farr West, and yesterday Louie received permission from Mrs. Braun to visit him. While there Bishop and Mrs. Martin droe to Ogden to attend church, and during their absence Louie and Levi conceived the brilliant scheme of taking an excursion to the capital city. Without unnecessary delay de-lay they harnessed a horse, hitched the animal to Mrs. Martin's buggy and drove out for the metropolis, without leaving anything to indicate where they had gone. Returning from church last evening, Bishop Martin missed the horse and rig. and knowing of the girl's reputation reputa-tion for acquiring property ot this character for excursion purposes, he advised Sheriff Wilson or the tacts. The latter sent out wires In various directions to intercept the runaways, jnd this morning Sheriff Wade gathered gath-ered in the youthful couple as they were jogging aloug to the Temple City. The horse showed hard travel. Just where the couple have. been wandering wander-ing since Sunday is not known at this time Beyond noting the fact that they were en route to Salt Lake City, they gave no explanation of their purpose or Intention, ami will explain the situation sit-uation to his honor in the Juvenile court when thoy are arraigned. |
