Show COMMITTEE NAMED TO . ACT IN DETERMINING STATE COURSE OF STUDY. D. H. Adams of Ogden Is Placed on Committee He Gives His Views on the Subject. At the last teachers' meeting of the State Teachers' association, held at Salt Lake, a resolution was passed asking tho president of trie association associa-tion to appoint a committee of nine iu confer on the state course of study. This committee Is to study Into the adviFiibillty of incorporating into the course i certain amount of work jn nature study, manual training ami agricultuie in such a way that these subjects will be best correlated with the subjects now constituting the regular reg-ular courses. This committee has now been appointed by Prof. George Thomas of the Agricultural college, president of the State Teachers' association. asso-ciation. In relation to tho prime objects of the committee and the arrangement of the various studios in quosUon, Assistant As-sistant Superintendent D. II. Adams is quoted as follows: "Mpst courses of study are already over-crowded. It is not. possible to add to them new subjects, so that the only way to incorporate manual training, agriculture and nature study is to correlate the work of these subjects sub-jects with the work now holng done. Much work in this line can be used as basic work of arithmetic, and Kng- ilsli. the latter including spoiling, reading and composition. This will bring in these subjects in a practical way and at the same time lurnlsU excellent ex-cellent matter to be used In the application ap-plication of common rules and principles prin-ciples of the studies now tauglit in our grammar schools."
