Show BIG FLOW HINDERS THE WORK IN ROOSEVELT TUNNEL Cripple Creek; Colo, Jan. 13 A big flow was encountered in tho breast of the Roosevelt deep drain-ago drain-ago tunnel last night and water is rushing to the tunnel opening at a rate of from 600 to 700 gallons a p.lnute. The flow sprung at a pomt 1.4 63 feet from the portal and so j strong wa the force that blast holes had to bo loaded through inch and a ouarier pipes in which charges or giant powder, primed and with fuse, were placed and then forced fnto tho opening drilled Into the granite. , Drilling was carried cm under great dltnculty, the men working in rubber caps, coats and boots. The channel lapped Is thought to be one of the feeders feed-ers to the main water course and Is ! Ihe second flow encountered since the i work of driving the tunnel was be- j gun. , I There arc no reports as yet of the ; receding of water in any of the properties prop-erties of the Beacon Hill section. |
