Show HEROISM CF TWOI YOUNG GIRLS IS REWARDED CONGRESS AUTHORIZES PRESENTATION PRESEN-TATION OF MEDAL TO EACH Sisters Saved Life of School Teacher Who Became Exhausted When Swimming In Sound. New York. March 10. Gold medals, med-als, authorized by congress, are to be , presented to Alice L. Edgcrly, 15 years old, and her sister, Dorothy, one year younger, for their bravery in saving Miss Jean Dowling, a school teacher, from drowning in Long' Island Sound last summer. The sisters live with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Edgerly, in Park avenue, New York j ' City. The medals will be presented to them next Friday evening at the high school which they attend. Miss Dowling. whom they saved, is a resident of the Bronx. While In swimming she made her way to a rock one hundred yards from the shore, then tried to swim back, but became exhauste'd. ' The young sisters saw her distress and plunging in; kept her afloat until un-til boatmen rescued all three. Representative Repre-sentative Joseph A. Golden of this state introduced a bill in congress voting them each a medal. |
