Show CRIPPLE IS CHARGED WITH BARNETT MURDER la Accused of Using His Crutch as a Weapon. Salt - Lake, March 17. With his crutch as a weapon, Hugh -Meyers, a cripple, now under arrest, was charged today in a complaint by County Attorney At-torney Job P. Lyon with the murder of John C. Barnctt, a painter and paper hanger, who was found dean in room No. 42 of the American house, on March 4, 1909. Philip Mann, alias "Boston Joe," and John Doe, alias "Shorty," are charged in the same complaint with being his accomplices in the crime. Neither "Boston Joe" nor "Shorty" have been apprehended and the police have so far been unable to find any clue of them. Since Meyers was arrested considerable consider-able circumstantial evidence has been uncovered which weaves him into tho plot and resulted today, In making him the principal In the crime. His crutch, which wa3 bespattered with blood, the prosecution will attempt to show was used to beat Barnett to death. There ls no question but tho motive was robbery and that the dead man's assailants secured $3 from his pockets. |
