NEWSPAPER MAN TELLS OF WORK AT LODI MINES C. F. Spilman, formerly a Utah newspaper man, but at present agent for the town of Bob. Nevada, was in Goldfleld recently. While there he gave some Interesting facts to the Goldfleld papers as to conditions at the mining town. Mr. Spilman was formerl j owner of tho Eureka Record, and for a time was employed 011 the Salt Lake Herald. Tho following story appeared in the Goldfleld News: C. F. Spilman ls ucwn from Bob, Nye county, on a business mission, and reports good progress there In the construction of a 100-ton smelter, which is being installed by the Lodl Mines company, which owns the Illinois Illi-nois mine. The brick and stone work at the smelter ls practically finished, with the exception of the arches and tho dust fluo, and the 10-horsc teams and traction engine are now hauling the machinery' from Luning. the railroad point. Tho management expects to have the furnnco ready to blow in early next month. Tho ores of the Illinois mlno are lead carbonates running high In silver sil-ver and lead, and the mine has been developed to a depth of 800 feet. The company's englueers estimate the value of the ore already developed at $2,000,000. The town of Bob. of which Mr. Spilman Spil-man is the agent, ls growing rapidly. Arrangements have been made to secure se-cure water from the pipe line or the Lodl Mine company, from Marble canyon, which has been completed. Aside from providing an abundance of good spring water for domestic purposes, the town has a good fire system. W. G. Adams & Co., of Tono-pah. Tono-pah. are building a business house and will put in a complete stock of merchandise mer-chandise and mine supplies. Gilbert C.
