Show SHIP SUBSIDY BILL TAKEN UP IN" HOUSE Washington.March 2. What I3 commonly com-monly known as the ship subsidy bill was taken up In the house today. An understanding was reached whereby four hours and a half should bo devoted devot-ed to debate and that at the end of that time, a vote should be taken. The principal feature of the bill is the provision that American mail steamships of sixteen knots or over and of not less than 5,000 gross tons shall be paid $4.60 per nautical mile outward bound on routes of -1.000 miles I or upwards to South America, tho Philippines. Asia and Australasia. I Mr. Overstreet of Indiana, in charge of the bill, explained it and he waa followed by Mr. Landia of Indiana, who made an earnest plea for the pas- 1 sage of the bill. |
