Show Iron Yards for Ogden, Where Structural Steel for the Largest Bridges or Buildings W ill Be Handled j Geo. A. Lowe Company Purchases the Simmons Hardware Building and GroundsTransaction Calls for $20,000 Is the Beginning Begin-ning of an Industry Which Adds to the Importance of Ogden as a Source of Supply in Iron ' and Steel Products. A deal was consummated today' by which the Geo A. Lowe Co. secures the middle section of the large building build-ing known as the Simmons warehouse, between Twonty-flret and Twenty-third Twenty-third streets, on Wall avenue; also a piece of valuable land 70 feet by 115 feet lying botwoen tho warehouse and the Rio Grande Western trades. It Is understood that the purchase price is $20,000. James W. Abbott, vice president and manager of the Geo. A. Lowe Co., stated today that the building pur' chased would bo used for general storage stor-age purposes, and, In addition to their present operations, they would install an up-to-dato .Iron yard. In this Iron yard will be Installed all the necessary facilities for fabrl- I eating structural steel and merchant bars of any size. Although present conditions in tho matter of equitable rates on raw material ma-terial and structural steel from the east prove a serious handicap to the local company In bidding for the larger larg-er jobs, Buoh as tho Ogden viaduct, steel bridges, etc., everything of a smaller nature can be successfully bid 'for and handled. Tho company is, even now. using from four to five carloads of steel per month In fabricating structural parts and the new yard with its Improved facilities will greatly Increase tho output. out-put. A new cold saw has been recently Installed which hag a capacity or a 16-inch "I" beam. |
