Samuel Schenck, former police commissioner under the Harpbr administration, who was arrested and taken to jail last night on an indictment on a charge of attempting to bribe Former City Prosecutor Pros-ecutor Fleming to cease his efforts to clofe the red light district, gave bond In tho sum of $5,000, today. He remained re-mained in Jail over night. District Attorney Fredericks announces an-nounces that he will press the prosecution prose-cution of Schenck with all vigor and would ask for arraignment on Monday and an early trial. Tho indicted man asserts his complete Innocence 'of the charge, but refuses to discuss the case in detail. The grand jury adjourned until a week from next Monday. This lengthy recess Is taken as an Indication Indica-tion that the members desire to give the district attorney's office an opportunity oppor-tunity to apprehend Oswald, and other missing witnesses. |
