Show WOMAN IS PAINFULLY INJURED ON A TRAIN While riding to Ogden on the "horse race special" over the Salt Lake & Ogden railroad, which left Salt Lake city at 12:45 Wednesday afternoon, Ji.i. Francis Kelly of this city was struck in the face by a largo lump of coal, which is thought to have been maliciously thrown through the window win-dow of the car by someone on the outside, out-side, and sustained a fractured cheek 'bone, in addition to her face being badly cut and two of her teeth being knocked out. Upon the arrival of the train at Ogden she was removed to the Broom hotel, where a physician found it necessary to remove some pieces of broken bono from the side of her face. When the accident occurred the train was about two-thirds of the way from Salt Lake. The piece of coal came through the second window from the end on the right side of the car nearest the engine with terrific velocity, veloc-ity, shattering the window and scattering scat-tering pieces of glass all over the car. C. H. Patten, passenger agent of the road, who was seated by the side of another man, whose name could not be learned, was near the window, and both he and his companion received slight cuts about the head and face. Mrs. Kelly wa3 ou tho tenth seat from the end of the car. Upon being struck, Mrs. Kelly fell back Into her seat in a semi-conscious condition. The excited passengers Immediately rushed about her, and as there was no water on tho train, aside from that which was brought from the engine In Mr. Patten's hat. very little help could be ghen her until the train arrived at Ogden. The theory was advanced that the lump of coal probably fell off the tender ten-der through the window, but this seems hardly probable, and It Is more likely that It was thrown by some one on the outside of the train. |
