Show KILLED HIS' LITTLE FRIEND GEO. R. SMITH JR. SHOOTS ALFRED AL-FRED LORENZO ROYLE. Supposed Gun Wa Not Loaded, Pulled Trigger, Awful and Instantaneous Instantane-ous Death the Result. The sad story of a boy with a supposedly sup-posedly unloaded gun. fatally shooting his companion, hus to be chronicled from the city thh morning. As a result re-sult of the awful mistake, two families are grief stricken and the lad who did the shooting Is very sorry and sad. The accident occurred at the home of George R. Smith, the tinner, at 3C04 Jefferson avenue, at about 9 o'clock last evening The boy who dIJ the shooting la the son of Mr. George R, Smith, named George R. Smith, Jr.. and the boy who was killed is the son of William Royle, 3050 Adams avenue, his name being Alfred Lorenzo Royle. The Smith boy Is 13 years old and the Hoyalc boy id. According to Ihe story told, a number num-ber of neighboring children were playing play-ing in the back yard of the Smith home last evening when George Smith, picking up a shot gun; from which, he stated he thought the cartridge had been extracted, aimed It at Alfred Role and milled the trigger. The gun was loaded and the deadly missile penetrated the body of tho Royle boy, who fell dead upon the ground. Death was Instantaneous, the doctor's examination exami-nation disclosing the fact that tho load of shot passed through the body of the unfortunate boy just above the heart, tearing a great hole on its way. The other children and tho young boy who fired the shot, were horrified when they saw little Alfred fall dead and they hastened to tell tho parents and the neighbors what had happened. A doctor was called, btit It availed nothing, the little fellow was dead before be-fore medical aid could reach him. The dead body was tenderly carried to the home where it now lies In state. It being evident that the killing was purely accidental, the officers concluded con-cluded that an Inquest would not be necessary. |
