(Continued from Page One) in ench car there wos a crew of 17 i 1 1.-1 1 ONLY THREE CLERKS. Todii'. thtt tame train is carrying out of Ogden dally one car with 50 teet of distributing space and the rew consists of three clerks, a loss of 4 8 clerks and the payroll that goes along with them. Whore have they gone"" To Council Coun-cil Bluffs Why? No one seems to know Is there any saving in time or money by having that mall distributed distribut-ed at Council Bluffs, Positively no saving In either time or more Ono of the main arguments advanced ad-vanced for distributing the mail at Council Bluffs Is that there are more trains arriving dally there than at Ogden. It must be remembered, however, that it takes at least eight hours to accumulate enough mall at a terminal termi-nal to keep a large crew of men t work It must also bo remembered that In distributing the mall at Council Bluffs It Is held up at that point for 24 hours as against 12 hours If distributed at Ogden. Take any ordlnar railroad Umo card and It will show this to be the fact. OGDEN LOGICAL POINT. Ogden Is the natural distributing point of mail originating in the east destined to California, Nevada, Utah. Idaho, Oregon. Washington and Montana. Mon-tana. There Is no difference In the cost of distribution whether the mall Is distributed in Chicago, Council Bluffs or In Ogden A comparison of tho actual costs will prove this conclusively. Nor is there any saving in time by having fhu mall rllKtrlhllTCll In Council BlllffS. In fact, there Is a loss of time to thoso, persons to whom the mail Is addressed address-ed because of It being held up at Council Bluffs The terminal at Council Bluffs employs em-ploys approximately 100 clerks with an annual payroll of approximately (250.000. Ogden should be the distributing: point for that mall and should have thut payroll BELONGS TO OGDEN. Take a map of the Cnlted States and with Ogden as th starting point' draw lines to Butte, Mont, to San; Francisco. Cal., to Los Angeles, Cal . j to Grand Junc'lon, Colo, and you , can readily sec that the territory bo-, twecn those lines rightfully belongs to Ogden when one considers the distribution of mail. Every single piece of circular, par-col par-col post and newspaper mall distributed dis-tributed to that territory should be distributed from Ogden if advantage is to be taken of economy, time and highest efficiency In the railway mail service. Why try, to recover the annual payroll pay-roll of JS0.0U0 which this city Is about to lose entirely.' Why not go after tho $250,000 annual payroll Which rightfully belongs hero and Why not raise a howl that would in;iki a boisterous hullabaloo seem like a psalm singing prayer meeting until we get what we want" Why not lot them Know back m Washington, D. C. that we are out here, on the map. and must be heard ? |
