Show CANYON BRIDGE REPORT FILED Joint Committee of Ogden Clubs Recommend No Interference Recommendations that no further action be taken by the business men's clubs of Ogden regarding tho question Of Ogden canyon hrldpcs although favoring fa-voring concrete structures In scenic districts near gden arc made In the official report of a committee appointed ap-pointed by the Ogden notary club. Progressive Business club and Klwan-Is Klwan-Is cluh to Investigate tho situation as to steel bride contracts. The report prepared by George Glen, C, A. Wright and Eber F Piers yesterda follows: "Your committee appointed to Investigate In-vestigate the subject of new bridg. i should bo made to secure a chang from the proposed steel structures to concrete bridges which would ad.l IP the beautj of i igden canyon, rather .than detract from It report as follows fol-lows We have fully Investigated regarding regard-ing the status of the contracts for the building of the two bridges. Including the fabrication of the Steel, and have found that these Caii for Immediate building of the structures and that tho OOntrACtora have proceeded already toward to-ward that building We find that although the Weber county commissioners urged tho use of concrete bridges tho plans for steel bridges were proposed by the state highway department and approved approv-ed by the federal rond commission and the adoption of tho sttel plans was brought about In order that federal and state aid could be secured In building these bridges. "We find that no protest was entered en-tered officially with either the county, coun-ty, state or federal authorities against these plans, prior to letting of the contracts, although notice of the plans was given In the newspapers. "We find that there would bo material ma-terial delay, probably of one year or more, If trie irranjcemcnts were made t withdraw the contracts. "Therefore Because of these conditions con-ditions and. although favoring the use of concrete bridges Instead of Itejl structures in such wonderful scenic areas as Ogden canyon, we report that !wo have found It will be Inad vl-a i to seek this change at such a late date. "The committee desires to commend com-mend tho Progressive Business club (for bringing this subject to the atten-jtlon atten-jtlon of Ogden and for Its Interest in protecting the scenic conditions In the louden district " |
