Memorial Day Observed in j Ogden Churches With Ap- propriate Addresses Memorial services, in honor of the dead, wero held in many churches in j this city yesterday with appropriate sermons and muaic. Boy Scouts took an active part in most of the services. At the First Presbyterian church seat3 were reserved for the members of the G. A. It., Ladles' of the G. A. K., j Women's RoIJef Corps and Service Star Lesion, "War Veterans of the American Lesion. I The Rev. John E. Carver, pastor of 1 the church delivered an inspiring' sermon, ser-mon, taking as his subject '"The Flag of America and Americans." Mildred Ware sans, "Tenting Tonight," and a quarteto composed of Mrs. Agnus Warner, Mildred Ware, James Simpson, Simp-son, and William V. Rockefeller, rendered ren-dered "Tho Flag Without a Stain." Mrs. Warner sang, "Tho Queen of the Earth," and the "Star Spangled Ban-' ner" was sung by the congregation.! Prayers for the dead was offered i at tho St. Joseph's Catholic church,' where the sermon was delivered byj Mgr. P. M. Cushanhan, dealing with tho subject of tho day. Benediction wasj offered at the conclusion of tho service. An address was dellvorod at tho Ninth ward Sunday evening by Attorney Attor-ney Josoph E. Evans, when tho services ser-vices were held under tho auspices of Boy Scout troop 23, with Scoutmaster Gcorgo A. Bergstrom in charge. A similar service was hold at tho Fourteenth ward, where an address was delivered by Russell Tanner, and the Scouts gave a program under tho direction of Scoutmaster Heyward. o |
