Show SETTLEMENT OF BANK SUIT BELIEVED NEAR SALT LAKE, May 31. Attempt of settlement out of court of the suit to recover $800,000 from twenty-nine former for-mer directors of the Merchants' bank is belieed to be underway. Several of tite defendants in the case are understood un-derstood to have oit'ered to pay substantial sub-stantial sums of money to have the suit dropped. The trial of the case is scheduled lor June 7 In Judge P. C. Evans' division di-vision of the Third district court. It was recently postponed from May 17, at which time Frank Holman, attorney attor-ney representing Stephen Lynch, receiver re-ceiver of the defunct Merchants' bank, protested against a lengthy postpone-menl. postpone-menl. Five of tho defendants in the case are reported by Mr. Lynch as having offered definite sums of money. They are John Watson, ? 15,000; L. R. Eccles, $10,000; Moroni Heiner, ?25,-000; ?25,-000; and Solon Spiro, $25,000. |
