Show I New Plan of Employment Is Accepted by Nearly All Business Houses. SALT LAKE, May 31 Representative Representa-tive business men from practically all lines of industry, including merchants and bankers and other employers, have indorsed a new working plan i wherebv employes will be hired and 2i discharged, according to an anuounce- ment made Saturday afternoon. mm The declaration of principles set "M forth as the policy of the employers i,l Is the outgrowth of the several pro- I posed working plans arrived at by the 1 .1 ' omplovers of tho city after months of investigation by the local industrial mt conditions. i WLl It was announced that 1500 eniploy- H ) ers of the city have signed the declr.-, WM ration which has been outlined by FR George E. Merrill, in charge of the pfcEH presentation of the new policy to the 2E U public, as follows; PgS! "The declaration upon which com- ment is requested means precisely ?pS .' what it professes to convey. It is dis- ptlg tinctly the Indorsement of a principle , si and nothing more or less. It expresses ( ffija the boiler that those who have signed HP tho statement that the time has come! jsSs to assert firmly and distinctly thO M conviction that it should be the right jljjfj of every worker to elect for himself 3gj as to whether he shall or shall not be fl$ a member of a labor organization, pip "Such a principle protects the right rapj of employes to organize Just as much Sfeffl v as it protects the right of the individ- 1Ial employe to join or to refuse to: ifsfir 't Jm a laDor organization. gfj "To declare for such a principle is Wvji therefore not declaring against trades! Me unions as such. In my opinion it mayj fe5K be interpreted as merely a declaration against labor dictatorship, and espe-i Jwlifa daily may bo considered as an appeal HKla to tho conservative, straight thinking ffim majority in trades unions to resist the Mca infiimneo nf self-saelcinir and radical I elements in their ranks. "Tho indorsement of the principle is not an Indorsement of some particular particu-lar union of employers, for a large proportion of the people and firms who havo publicly gone on record arc not even members of such an organization: organiza-tion: It is not an Indorsement of the attltudo of any ( group of self-seekers among the employers. Indeed, the contact which has been had with hundreds hun-dreds of business men in Salt Lake establishes very clearly that by far the majority of employers are disposed to resist the influence of radical em-J ployers and anti-union agitators and I are earnestly intent upon proving! themselves fair-minded and consider i ate in their dealings with their era-j ployes." |
