Weston Allen, attorney general of Massachusetts, filed in the supremo court today a bill in equity asking that tho various parties par-ties to the Involved Christian Science litigation be temporarily restrained from further prosecuting their suits and ordorcd to plead to his bill forthwith forth-with as defendants. The attorney general In his bill asserts as-serts that tho various suits, however, decided, will result In Only a partial determination of tho broad questions In which the public "as indefinite beneficiaries" of trusts created by Mrs. Mary Eiakor G. Eddy, founder of the Christian Science church is Interested. Ho asked the court to declare the first church to be a public charitable trust. "Ho also nsks It to rule that the governing body of the church consists of the board of directors and that this board Is vested with authority to fix tho salaries of the trustees of tho publishing society, to declare vacancies va-cancies In the trusteeships for such roasons as It may deem sufficient and to determine what literature shall be published by the trustees "as authori-j tative for use In tho churches and for promoting and cxtondlng the religion of Christian Science." The attorney gonoral further asks that tho court declare tho treasurer of tho first church authorized to hold tho net profits of the business of the i publishing society subject to tho order i of tho directors. An order of notice on the bill was made returnable July 1st. |
