Show Daniels Awards I Gold Life Saving I Medal to Seaman WASHINGTON. April 10 Bertram L Reed of Richmond Hill, N. Y., an apprentice seaman of the Daval reserve re-serve force, has been recommended by Secretary Daniels for a gold life saving sav-ing medal for rescuing four bos who I had broken through the ice in Bronx river January 2 Commendation by the secrctar of eight officers and men of the navy for acts of heroism also was announced today: They are: Lieutenants W. D. Small and Henry L. Dyer, for persevering efforts ef-forts in rendering medical aid to an electric welder and his helper who had been overcome by deadly gas fumes on the submarine S4 at the navy yard, Portsmouth, N. H. rvin H. Smith of Arkansas City, Kansas, for saving (he life of Lieut. Warubaugh in New York harbor last Q January after lhe capsizing of a motor dory of the U. S. S. Gamble. Frank B. Wellcr of Akron. Ohio, for rescuing a dock yard joiner from L drowning in Catalina Bav, Gibraltar. Rupert T. Scolt of Pittsburg, for rescuing Chief Boatswain's Mate James Lawler from a gangway filled with fumigating gas. Arthur D. Benson of Dover Plains, N, who divpd oyerboard to rnscue I.ioutenant Wright who was attempting attempt-ing to ?rr. e Mr-. J. If Wood, mother of Lieutenant J. O Wood of the navy.
