R Kingsbury, Kings-bury, president of the Standard Oil company of California, issued a statement state-ment indicating that the shortage of petroleum nnd its refined pro'ducts on the Pacific coast has become acute and thai, an increase in the price of gasoline Is imminent. Instructions have been issued, the statement says to make no new contracts con-tracts for the sale of fuel oil without referring to the home office and to keep exportatlons of refined products o a minimum. Kingsbury predicted the 1920 demand de-mand for naptha products In the lerri-tory lerri-tory in which the company delivers will exceed the supply of 150,000,000 gallons. Kingsbury declared that if gasoline has to be purchased in the midconlinent field to supply the shortage short-age along the Pacific coast this gasoline gaso-line would sell in San Francisco at between be-tween 25 and 30 cents a gallon, against the present price of 21' cents. oo We praised the French for their bravery, but we never thought for a moment they'd try to flaunt their , wives' backbones in our faces.
