Show Johnson Again Assails Covenant as Source of Danger ! Los ANGELES, Ocl 3. United I States Senator Hirain W. Johnson. traversing the territory recently visited visit-ed by President Wilson in his tour for j support of the ratification of the pea j treaty and the league of nations covenant, cov-enant, addressed two enthusiastic aud- j I lences here today in opposition to both; issues. In both appearances Senator John-I son appealed to his audience to voice! their unequivocal disapproval of the treaty and covenant as incompatible with American ideals of democratic j government. At each of the meetings which began with a luncheon and con-' con-' eluded with an address at ihe Shrine j Auditorium. Senator Johnson was wildly applauded for his stand on Ihe platform lor 'traisht Americanism." Approximately 7,000 persons crowded crowd-ed th Shrine auditorium to hear Sen-! later Johnson expound his doctrine of "straight Americanism" and attack the j 'provisions of the treaty and league, j HS denounced both ;is unworthy of American ideals and iradnions. On the rostrum with Senator Johnson John-son were three former United States Benators from California. They were Cornelius Cole, Republican senator in i the sixties, and Frank P. Flint and iJohn D. Works, all of Los Angeles. Senator Johnson s address, which I was an enlargement of his afternoon i theme, was interrupted time and time j again by applause and cheering.
