Show oo ! Jewish New Year Is Observed by Local Congregation An observance of Jewish New Year; I was held yesterday by members of that faith under the direction of Bab- bl Laberer In the Knights of Pythias, hall. Rabbi Laborer conducted the confirmation of Milton Krolnos who gnve h!n confirmation address. Several phases of Jewish observances observ-ances were taken up and u subscrlp-I subscrlp-I i Ion of 1100 wan made for the rollef 'of war mifferers Rabbi Lnheror irave I his address, "The Unborn Generations," Genera-tions," saying In part: "And not with you alone do I make this covenant and this oath. But with him that is standing here with us his day before the Lord our God, and with him that is not here with us this daj Deuteronomy. LI: 13-11 "The life of Moses is slowly ebbing away Ho comes to speak to the people peo-ple and he says to them " 'Ye are standing this day. all of you, before the Lord our God; your litUe ones, your wives, and thy stranger stran-ger that Is in the midst of thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water. That thcu shouldst enter into the covenant w hich the Lord I by God maketh with thee this day.' 'And then comes the verse quoted above. This covenant is not for you alone, but for all time for the unborn generation. The Law of God is not for one generation, Moses did not labor la-bor and build for one age, but for every age The Torah has its significance signifi-cance every day. "The passage referred to is the most powerful protest against selfish ness. It is not enough that we ourselves our-selves are blessed by God; it not sufficient that we ourselves are loyal to the faith. What of others? WLat of the generations yet to be born? "This Is the mistake so many peopl" make and to this is due the laxity with which Judaism is being observed today. W hat does the prophet Isaiah Ray? " 'Seek yo the Lord while he may be found, call ye on him while he Is nar. for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations.' "Moses with that wonderful vision which came to him as a result of his communion with the unseen God could not conceive a selfish religion, could not think of a man so satisfied with himself that he would excludt ill others from the happiness he enjoys. "The covenant is with you, your wives, your children, the mighty ones in the land of the humble laborer, With the stranger who is living wirn you. Stay, this is not all. Tho covenant cov-enant Is, too. for those who are "not here with us this day ' "The intent of religion is lost wl.' tti n i.; narrow Gud Is noi merely M V God, but He is also your God; tho God of the fathers and the God of tho children Now, today, tomorrow and forever more. "Unless that is your belief, you do not believe in God "A community builds a synagogue; very creditable. If they do not build for the days to come, the time will arrive when the House of Worship will have no worshippers. And whal becomes then of the religion? Man; a man says. 'I go to the synagogue, my children .' and then follows an expressive shrug of the shoulcjeis When tho children cease going to the House of God. it Is an evil day for Israel ' The covenant of our fathers made with God In the wilderness is HKo a never finished chain, livery gensrs Hon mimt add a link so It stretches to tho next feneration.
