Show I PRESIDENT'S COLLAPSE. When the President was in Ogden observers remarked that the lines about his eyes indicated strain, and now the news comes that Mr. Wilson Wil-son has had a nervous reaction at Wichita, Kansas, and has been ordered or-dered back to Washington by his physician in order to gain rest which is necessary to prevent a complete collapse. For nearly a year the President has been undertaking a task beyond be-yond the power of one man. He has been under strain constantly since early in 1916, when he starteo his notes of warning to Germany and, from the time this country entered the war. he has had difficulty diffi-culty upon difficulty to meet and tremendous problems to solve. Finally, after die war the President found himself in a situation calling call-ing on all his reserve forces and his highest mental efforts. Returning Return-ing from Versailles, the head of the nation has been confronted with an opposition more trying on his nerves than when he faced a foreign foe. With all the strain upon him, I he wonder is he has borne up so long. He must be a man of extraordinary vitality, will power and intellectual in-tellectual strength to earn' the burden without an earlier breakdown. The nation will hope for his speedy recovery. |
