Sept. 25 The Interstate In-terstate commerce commission today1 j promulgated orders in substantiating the action of the railroad administration administra-tion in August granting special rates Ion the shipment, of livestock out of the drought-stricken areas of Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming and fix-iig greatly reduced rates on feed shipned lrom neighboring slates into tin drought-stricken area. These special rales were ;n violation of the long and hort-haul clause of the interstate commerce act, and a special rulg I waives that law. In placing its sanction on the sperial rates referred to, the commission adds that it does not necessarily approve special rates filed under the authority granted. All such rates are subject to complaint com-plaint and to correction if in violation of other than the long and short-h:ul claU66 of the rate law. The assump'ion us. however, the these emergency rates will not be assailed, but will b regarded re-garded as special concessions to Bave thousands of head of stock that other-1 wise would have perished or been p.c-riflced. |
