Show Garland Society (Special to Tho Standard.) One of tho biggest social events ol this season was the benefit ball given at the Palace hall Saturday, Aug. 17. In honor of the local soldier and sailor boys who are leaving their homos and loved ones to enter into the service ol the U. S. army and navy. A large company com-pany attended the affair. Chairman ol the committee for this affair was K. V. Daniels, who with the Ladles Self-culture Self-culture club aided In making the occasion oc-casion a happy success. The affair net-tod net-tod 105, which will be expended in sending the home newspapers to the boys in the different camps and to I those who have gone over seas. Mr. and Mrs. George 0. Nyc enter taincd in honor of Mr. Nye's brother, I Fred Nye, who Is at the training school I at the Utah university. A well arrang-I arrang-I od program of quartets, vocal solos, in strumental numbers and speeches was enjoyed. Tempting refreshments were served. Merrill Evans spent a couple of days here with his wife and baby. Following Fol-lowing a course in the training "school at tho University of Utah, Mr. Evans left for further training at Fort Leavenworth, Leav-enworth, Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Preston arc visiting relatives in Salt Lake. Mrs. Ernest Jensen is visiting friends inSalt Lake for a few days. c Mr. and Mrs. George F. Grovcr and children of Hollistcr, Idaho, are guests of Dr. and Mrs. W. T. Ines and other relatives here. I j Mr. and Mrs. Peter Boss and family are touring Idaho. i ! Miss Vcrna Capener, daughter of i Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Capener, was mar-I mar-I rled recently at Pocatcllo, Idaho, to Mr N. M. Hanson of Logan. .Mr. anu .Mrs. Hansen will make their home at Aber- dcen, Idaho. Wednesday of last week in Salt Lake the wedding ceremonies were performed which united Miss Rhoda King of Garland and Reynold Watkins of Brigham City. A reception . was gLyen in the evening at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mis. Thomas E. King. Mr. Watkins left Thursday for the training school at the University of Utah. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Persson entertained enter-tained in honor of Mrs. Pirsons' father, fath-er, Mr. Wilson, who has been their guest for some time. Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Schneider spent Sunday and Monday with friends at Bothville. Mr. and Mrs. A. 1. Grover entertained entertain-ed in honor of their daughter's birthday. birth-day. The lawn was beautifully decorated decorat-ed with flowers of the seasorr. A jolly crowd of young people gathered for the occasion and music and games were enjoyed. Lunch was served to about twenty -five guests. |
