Show WHY THEY UPHOLD THE STANDARD. Why do the people like the Standard? Stand-ard? Because the paper is outspoken and fearless in local affairs and thoroughly thor-oughly American in its national policies. poli-cies. Letters are regularly received com-mendin- the Standard's attitude. Here is one from an engineer at Evanslon, Wyoinlng: Editor Standard: Lot me first introduce in-troduce myself as an engineer on the Union Pacific. I am a constant reader read-er and admirer of your paper. As I passed the circus train the other day, the same thoughts came to me as were expressed in your editorial on "Slackers "Slack-ers With the Circus." I wondered how the circus people get by. I think the day will soon come when they will all be rounded up. I have just mado a trip to Portland and taken the examination for first lieutenant in the railroad operating unit, foreign service. While in Portland Port-land I noticed in the evening young officers and privates with side" arms and wondered why. They are rounding round-ing up the slackers. I hope to see this done all over, the country. A few boosts from the Standard will help. In rounding them up, if a man couldn't clear himself, he was on his way. "I would like to see more of the foreign for-eign faces disappear from our streets. If we must fight for fhem, they should be made to fight with us. "I am proud to say that I have passed all examinations required by ; tho government and am now waiting ; for notice to report. (Signed) "W. A.
